Financial Advisor Magazine compiled this list of top RIAs by evaluating the year-end assets under management (AUM) of RIAs and comparing them to the previous year’s AUM among those RIAs exceeding $500 million as of December 31, 2022. Additionally, Financial Advisor Magazine conducted a survey to determine key elements such as factors that accounted for asset inflows and outflows, total AUM in 2022 by size range, critical actions firms have taken in the past 3 years, and other advisory firm characteristics.

With RIAs representing the fastest-growing category in the U.S. wealth management market since 2016 according to McKinsey & Company data, many are continuing to set themselves apart from larger banks and institutions to “offer the kind of high-touch service necessary in a business where client relationships are sticky and precious—and hard to replicate by a big corporation” as stated in the Financial Advisor Magazine 2023 RIA Survey & Ranking.
