Perpetually Looking Forward

Every year since 2011, we have hosted The Simon Quick Annual Charitable Golf Outing to raise funds for charitable organizations in the Morris County Area. In light of the coronavirus pandemic we are unable to come together in person. However, this year we have shifted to an online fundraiser to support nourish.NJ, a community based nonprofit organization creating lasting solutions to hunger, homelessness and poverty in the Morris Country area.

It was only a short quarter ago when we wrote about the collapse in prices for risk assets as the world came to grips with the devastation that COVID-19 would have on the global economy. I recall sitting in my makeshift office/bedroom watching the Dow violently swing hundreds of points into the red as Governor Cuomo interrupted my regularly scheduled Bloomberg programming to provide the latest update on spiking hospitalization rates and the inversely correlated availability of PPE and ventilators. The sirens of passing ambulances were the only thing I’d hear outside my window on an otherwise deserted street for weeks. Lysol disinfectant, 3M N95 masks, and Charmin Ultra Soft were the new precious commodities being traded on my Facebook groups.

Almost half of Americans say running out of money in retirement is their number-one fear.[1] Their second biggest fear is declining health. Although these two fears may seem independent, they’re actually related. The state of your health in retirement can be a major determining factor in how long your money lasts.
