There’s nothing like graduating college and starting your career—in the financial industry, no less—right at the onset of a recession. But before you start feeling bad for me, know that this experience was the catalyst that led me to pursue this career as a financial advisor further. The timing of when I embarked on this journey didn’t make me second-guess my choice, it reinforced it. Here’s why.

Like many others, I found my way into my career through the example of someone close to me. In my case, it was my father’s interest in the financial world that sparked my passion and eventually led me to pursue investing as a career. As a kid, I would watch my dad study the markets, read his Value Line subscription, and watch CNBC for financial news. He was such a successful student of the markets that his Smith Barney stockbroker would often pitch my dad’s ideas to his other clients. Having this example in my formative years, I couldn’t help but become interested in the markets and investing myself. This interest has led me down the path to a fulfilling career.

We want to take a moment to share our appreciation to all of our clients, team members, partners, and friends of the firm who have positively impacted Simon Quick Advisors this past year. Since the start of 2018, we have expanded into Chattanooga, launched a new website, added equity principals, and given back to the local community through our Annual Golf Outing and community service day. I have always been interested in the world of finance. I studied finance in college and, with a desire to manage my own money, I decided I also wanted to help others do the same. This inspired me to become a financial advisor, and this has driven me ever since.

One of the best ways to decide what career is best for you is to dip your toes into a particular industry and gain hands-on experience. This is how I indirectly found my way into the financial services industry. I was initially drawn to the field of law, but after working at a law firm during high school, I quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit for me.

With recent legislation and an evolving market, many registered investment advisors (or RIAs) have been forced to alter their approach. Whether it’s changing their approach or adjusting their business model, clients have begun to scrutinize many of the firms on the market. At Simon Quick Advisors, we continue striving every day to provide our clients with exceptional service.

I have often been asked by clients to explain why I entered the wealth management industry and chose to become a financial advisor. I knew I wanted to give a career in finance a shot, however, I didn’t know which area would be the best fit for me.

An advisor can play one of the most prominent roles in a person’s life, forming a long-lasting relationship and providing trusted counsel. It’s not surprising, then, that it can be incredibly overwhelming to find an advisor you trust and with whom you want to work with for the long-term.
