Biography
Mr. Unger joined Simon Quick in 2025, and brings over 25 years of experience advising entrepreneurs and their families. As a Managing Director and Client Advisor, Shei leads market growth efforts, oversees a seamless onboarding experience for new client families, and upholds excellence in ongoing relationship management. Throughout his career, Shei has specialized in advising and educating business owners before, during, and after the sale or recapitalization of privately held companies, consistently delivering results through strategic vision and collaborative execution. Drawing on his direct involvement in more than 60 M&A transactions as well as the collective expertise of the firm’s Advisors and Managing Partners, Shei guides business-owning families through strategic alternatives and the execution of successful financial exits. His approach integrates critical planning across tax, wealth transfer, investments, and family dynamics.
From assembling the right advisory “deal team” in advance of the sale, to introducing creative strategies that maximize after-tax proceeds from a once-in-a-lifetime liquidity event, Shei helps clients avoid potential landmines and structure deal terms that provide a sustainable cash flow and long-term financial confidence. He also plays a central role in guiding business owners through the often complex transition from owner to investor—helping them navigate both the financial and personal aspects of their next chapter. In every stage of the process, Shei remains a dedicated and trusted advocate for business owners.
Before joining Simon Quick Shei was a Senior Wealth Strategist and Exit Planning Advisor to the North Texas and Oklahoma market at Northern Trust. Prior to that he spent eight years as the Market Practice Lead for BNY Mellon’s Private Business Advisory group where he was a founding board member of the firm’s nationally acclaimed Middle Market Exit Planning Group. Earlier in his career, he served as the President of a boutique corporate finance advisory firm, which he successfully led through a sale, along with holding senior advisory roles supporting a wide range of successful businesses.
Shei has a Bachelor of Science in Finance from The Florida State University.
He is a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP) professional, a Certified Exit Planning Advisor® (CEPA), and has held the Series 7, 52, 63, and 65 securities licenses.
