Simon Quick Announces 2020 Golf Outing Beneficiary

About The Outing

Every year since 2011, we have hosted The Simon Quick Annual Charitable Golf Outing to raise funds for charitable organizations in the Morris County Area. In light of the coronavirus pandemic we are unable to come together in person. However, this year we have shifted to an online fundraiser to support nourish.NJ, a community based nonprofit organization creating lasting solutions to hunger, homelessness and poverty in the Morris Country area.

Simon Quick is proud to announce nourish.NJ as this year's golf outing beneficiary!

Organization Mission

nourish.NJ, previously known as The Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center, is a community based nonprofit organization creating lasting solutions to hunger, homelessness and poverty. We offer food, housing services, work readiness programs, medical, social and educational services 365 days a year in a warm, safe and caring environment, free of charge, no questions asked. We choose NOT to apply for Government funding as that would limit our ability to provide a barrier and stigma free place for individuals to come and get the help they desperately need. As a self-funded,501 C (3), we are not subject to government guidelines, reporting requirements, application restrictions or quotas. Our model is based on building relationships that encourage change, provide support & connect guests to the services that will help them become self-sufficient. Anyone is welcome regardless of age, sex, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, financial qualifications, or religious beliefs.

We opened December 1, 1984 as the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center. In 36 years we have never missed a day of opening our doors for our guests. While food will always be at the heart of what we do, it was time for our name to reflect the broader scope of the good work we do together in our community. On October 20,2019, we unveiled our new name: The Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center is now known as Nourish.NJ.

Organization History

36 years ago we were strictly an emergency food provider. We have grown into a multi-service organization dedicated to ending food insecurity, poverty and homelessness in our community. Food is the starting point of our engagement with communities we serve, but our work now goes much further. 365 days a year we serve breakfast & lunch to 200-250 people & 6 weekly free farmer's markets for families to take fresh fruits, vegetables, and frozen meats home to prepare. Healthy food is essential to prevent chronic diseases, but it is expensive & out of reach for most people living in poverty. Our programs seek to lessen this health disparity by providing access to nutritious food to a population of individuals, parents & children, that otherwise would not have access. From the relationships we form with our guests, our Outreach Staff work one on one to ensure the guests receive whatever medical, social, educational, housing and/or employment assistance they need.

Our guests come from diverse backgrounds and situations.10% are currently homeless, living on the streets or in shelters. The remaining 90% are working poor families, elderly on fixed incomes, students struggling to stay in school and individuals with disabilities. We begin individually with guests and provide services based on their current situation, needs & abilities, with the goal of helping people become self-sufficient. 95% of guests engage in these additional services.

No one could ever have imagined a challenge like the one facing us all right now. But we made a promise to always meet the needs of our guests, and we are keeping that commitment. Now, in the face of the COVID-19 virus, nourish.NJ has altered our services but not stopped us from helping many vulnerable people that face new hardships. Vowing to make sure guests still have food, we quickly shifted from sit-down meals to providing free bagged lunches for anyone who needs them, along with providing canned goods and other non-perishables. We have done it in compliance with rapidly-changing restrictions and limitations, and even if our doors can't be opened as usual, our hearts are open.
